Butterflies are incredibly picky insects, they only lay eggs on host plants and nothing else. This means that lime butterflies only lay eggs on lime plants – although there are different species of lime plants. Same goes for their caterpillars, they will eat lime leaves and nothing else.
I have planted a few citrus lime plants to attract the butterflies to come and lay their eggs. There have been a few caterpillars now and then but I this is the first time that one has moulted successfully into a butterfly.
