Wedding Bands

Need to shop for wedding bands soon, so I am just considering my options.

  1. Handicraft rings from Etsy
    1. Great choice of handmade and customised designs. Many of them are really nice.
    2. Many of them are reasonably priced
    3. Ships worldwide
  2. Online rings from Blue Nile
    1. Bang for buck prices.
    2. Limited designs
  3. Offline rings from a boutique
    1. Good range of designs
    2. Easy to reach for after service

Important considerations on materials:

  1. Silver
    1. Pros: Inexpensive and many designs available
    2. Cons: Tarnishes and scratches
  2. Stainless steel
    1. Pros: Inexpensive and scratch-resistant
    2. Cons: Not many designs available and impossible to resize
  3. White vs yellow gold
    1. Pretty much the same. The difference between the two is the different materials added for the colour. Yellow gold has zinc and copper while white gold has palladium, manganese and nickel.
    2. I would also say that white gold looks modern whereas yellow gold looks classy.
  4. 14k vs 18k
    1. 14k: less gold, less expensive, more scratch-resistant
    2. 18k: more gold, more expensive, less scratch-resistant
  5. Platinum, tungsten etc…
    1. Pros: Very fancy, scratch resistant and good hypo-allergenic properties
    2. Cons: Expensive, impossible to resize, very little designs available

Finding out your ring size:

  1. I took a piece of thick paper
  2. Measured and then use the chart from Blue Nile
  3. Diameter = 3.142 * circumference

With all these considerations in mind, I found a ring that really caught my eye for wifey:
